About me

Hi, I'm Eduardo Brandao, a new herpetologist who loves snakes. It all started when my dad and I began reading books about snakes together - and then went herping in Florida, on a trip to the Universal and Disney theme parks.

Snakes are my favourite animal. I love their patterns (even if not every snake has an elegant one), the feeling of looking at something truly alive, and the beauty of nature that I've always loved.

Why I made SnakeList

I first had the idea in Orlando. I wanted an app to tick off every snake I'd ever seen, instead of keeping a checklist in Google Keep. When I found out no app like that existed (iNaturalist can work as a list if you add photos, but I wanted a real checklist), I decided to make my own.

After I got a laptop, I found Claude Code and started building SnakeList with it, which saved me days, even weeks, of coding. I described what SnakeList is and what I wanted, and it grew from there. The name SnakeList is my own idea, not copied from or inspired by anything else.

My favourite snakes

My favourite snake is the Inland Taipan - for its rarity, its venom, its colour and where it lives. It's on my Want to see list, marked as my favourite.

I also love the Parrot Snake. It's an elegant, fascinating snake: its colours, its size, its eyes - basically everything except the shape of its head.

Snakes I've seen

Honestly, not that many yet - and I don't know the exact number, because I'm still ticking them off in SnakeList.
